Basescu: Romanian troops to stay in Iraq until 2011

The missions beside NATO will be negotiated until the end of this year.

The President Traian Basescu said yesterday, during a video-conference organized at the Cortroceni Palace with the Romanian troops attending missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans, that Romania will continue its mission in Iraq.

“We will continue our activity in Iraq until 2011 or until our allies decide to leave Iraq,” Basescu declared, as quoted by Mediafax, mentioning that this statement is destined to “clear” any political controversy on this issue....
